Scientific & Technical Programme
Even though the conference is over we thought it would be a nice idea to leave the download link for the programme on site for a while so that newcomers to the EBC can see what they missed! It can be downloaded here.
You can also see the actual exhibitor and sponsoring list here .
Contributions
Summaries of congress contributions (presentations and abstracts) can be seen
here. The presentations and posters in their entirety can be viewed/downloaded from the same page, (initially available only with a password which will be sent to all Congress attendees)
In 1947 the founding fathers of EBC established a
forum for the exchange of technical and scientific
information among the continent‘s brewers. The guns
of World War II had fallen silent; victors and vanquished
were now discussing hops and malt.
Within the last year EBC has undergone what is perhaps
the most fundamental change in its 62-year history:
There have been the merger with The Brewers of Europe, a
geographical re-orientation with the move to Brussels and
a reduction in staff. This has affected all areas where
EBC is active, including the congress. It’s a
challenge, but also a chance to re-affirm our
credentials.
So, in what way can you expect the congress to deliver
and perhaps be different?
EBC hosted its first congress in Germany, in Baden-Baden,
in 1955. The registration fee back then was 80.- DM,
which is obviously a long time ago. The point is that
today EBC is equally committed to delivering value to
delegates and the industry alike. This means that you, as
a visitor or delegate, can expect to pay significantly
less. The organising committee, acting in consultation
with Interplan AG, has worked hard to achieve a 29%
reduction in the registration fees for both member and
non-member delegates, whilst maintaining the usual
nominal charge to presenters and accompanying guests.
This has only been possible by the increased use of
sponsorship opportunities and the involvement of the
supplier industries, as well as keeping a lean management
structure.
Another change that EBC has made concerns the scientific
and technical programme. For the first time, a system of
on-line evaluation of contributions was used. Members of
the EBC Selection Committee (comprised of members of the
Executive, as well as the chairpersons of the EBC
committees and groups) clicked their way through 111
abstracts, reviewing and scoring them blind, with authors
and origin of papers remaining hidden from the
adjudicators.
The programme in this brochure reflects a professionally
derived approach. It has been a process that can be
audited and statistically analysed (see below). Putting
quality above quantity has also seen the overall number
of presentations decrease by about 15% compared to the
previous congresses, allowing more time for exchange and
scientific reflection.

Lastly, there is the trade exhibition, the poster display
and, of course, an exciting social programme to look
forward to. “The more things change, the more they
stay in the same“.
On behalf of the EBC President, the whole EBC Executive
Committee and The Brewers of Europe, we welcome you
to
the great hanseatic city of Hamburg. We would be
delighted to see you there in May.

Exhibition
We organised an exhibition for suppliers to the brewing
industry, research institutes and brewing schools. The companies & organisations who took up an exhibition stand/sponsorship (and who therebye greatly contributed to the success of the Congress) may be found here.
